“Hello…. It’s Me….”

If you can sing that in your best Adele singing voice!

Hi! I am Samantha. Also known as Sam, Sammi, Samurai or Sammi L Jackson when I’ve had a margarita or two.

As my first ever blog post, I thought I would introduce myself, and my journey on how I got into the biz of art and photography. And finally opening up and running a full service newborn photography studio here in Chesapeake, Virginia!

Photography wasn’t always a passion in my life. I was never in yearbook committee or a photography elected class. All of the photos I have of my youth are printed copies I was given from my friend’s Kodak disposable cameras. Or buried deep in a flip phone that’s whereabouts are unknown.

I never had much direction as to what I wanted to do when I “grew up”. No ambitions to be a doctor, lawyer, fitness instructor or chef. I knew I loved animals and documentaries, science and “fun facts”. Which I still love telling people in conversation to this day, so don’t be surprised when I hit ya with a “Did you know…?” while conversing.

It wasn’t until my husband and I welcomed our first born daughter into the world, did it hit me. Our sweet Savannah Rose born on a beautiful Sunday morning in 2015. From that moment on I couldn’t stop taking photos of her. I felt (and still do) feel as though I couldn’t soak her in enough. She was growing and changing so fast, it was all I could do to preserve every detail of her perfection.

As any new mom does, I would take to Pinterest and try to replicate the gorgeous photos I had seen. Terribly I might add, although at the time I thought they were incredible. I asked my husband for a real camera for my birthday in 2016. Always so supportive of me and whatever brings my joy, he agreed.

In between duty stations and vagabonding as the military life goes, an old friend asked if I wanted to try and do some milk bath photos of her and her sweet baby girl. “Of course I will!!” I said, and BOOM. Before I was walking I was RUNNING into the business.

Finally after years of trying to perfect my craft, run a business, take safety courses and stock up props, here I am! I am so blessed to be doing what I love and continue to keep up with the latest trends while maintaining the classic and simple beauties that come with capturing and freezing time. Its my “super power” as my 6 year old says. And I couldn’t be more happy than to share it with my clients around the world!
